When questioned regarding the tactics adopted, apprentice J. Murphy stated he was instructed to settle in the second half of the field and attempt to take clear running to the outside rounding the home turn. He said that passing the 500m he attempted to improve on the back of LE JUGE but was left flat-footed, following which GOLD AMBITION improved to his inside and shifted out, resulting in his mount being held up for a short distance, and he was then obliged to shift to the outside to secure clear running and his mount finished the race off well.

Mr Kelly stated that the gelding had only returned to the stable prior to its last start where on that occasion the gelding began awkwardly and was obliged to race further back than anticipated. Mr Kelly noted that the gelding had previously performed well when ridden in a forward position and had been ridden in a similar manner earlier in its career.
