M Rodd reported the saddle on the gelding slipped back marginally at the start and a short distance later appeared to lock up in the nearside stifle and thereafter took no competitive part in the race. A post-race veterinary examination of HEADSPACE revealed no abnormalities and a post-race swab sample was taken. Trainer M Currie was advised the gelding must trial before its next race start. Since trialled 9/2 Toowoomba.

Rider B Thompson reported it was his intention to race in a more forward position however after beginning awkwardly settled in a rearward position. He added the horse was making an abnormal respiratory noise over the concluding stages of the event. Trainer G Andrews stated he was disappointed with the overall performance of SPIRIT OF AQUADA and was of the opinion the horse was not suited racing back in the field and is better suited when racing on the outside of runners.
