When questioned, the only explanation N. Tomizawa could offer for the horse’s disappointing performance was that he believed the filly may have got its tongue over the bit during the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer T. Sears advised that in the days following the event he had the horse scoped which revealed it to have mucus in its trachea for which it was treated accordingly.

Rider Andrew Spinks reported that his mount failed to muster speed from the wide gate and failed to respond to his riding from the 600m. A post-race veterinary examination determined that the mare had dislodged its synthetic hoof filler which may have had a bearing on the performance. Jockey Spinks also reported that the mare may not have appreciated the firmer surface today.
