Bergerac Laid in rounding the home turn. Stewards questioned jockey L. Cassidy regarding the tactics adopted when in a 3 wide position midfield where he had opportunity to stride forward as the tempo of the race being set during the event was only steady, he indicated he had given consideration to striding forward however he felt if he did so, the runner to his inside, namely COGLIERE, would have increased the tempo and he would have steel been obliged to race 3 wide, and having asked his horse for an effort far earlier in the race then he would have liked. Bettabet Red When quest re disapp perf. rdr stated mount was obliged to work early to establish a forward position. Rdr added mount failed to sprint on straightening & weakened to the line. Rdr stated that his mount is only a small mare & was required to carry 59kg today. Trainer agreed with the sentiments of rdr & added that the mare races best when able to settle with some cover to allow it to sustain a finishing effort. Honour'n'strength Trainer questioned tactics and improved performance - advised intention to be ridden in a forward position at last start however, over shorter distance unable to muster speed and obliged to settle further back. Added following disappointing performance two starts ago had received treatment for stifle issues and had trialled well. Perfect Aim Jumped away awkwardly. Approaching the 900m was placed in restricted room and had to be steadied when racing between MAGIC FOX , which shifted out, and PENNINO, which shifted in. Don't Leave Me Out J. Lloyd reported that he had been under instructions to have the gelding in a handy position behind the leaders, however, after receiving a bump from ZOFONIC DANCER near the 1100m, his mount refused to settle and it took him some time to obtain a position with cover. He added that after passing the 800m he was bumped heavily by HANG to his outside and his mount immediately lost ground and was under pressure. He added that near the 200m the gelding blundered, and again inside the 100m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Doomben 24/03/2018
Enterprise March M. Cahill was asked to comment on the horse’s performance. He indicated that after being slightly tardy to begin the horse did not respond to his urgings in the early stages and was reluctant to hold a position. He added that the horse had a tendency to lay out rounding the home turn and in doing so made contact with another runner and then laid out under pressure in the home straight. Orman reported that it had not been his intention to race in a forward position, however when the pace was only steady passing the 1600m and his mount was overracing he elected to shift wider and improve around the field to obtain a position outside the lead passing the 1100m. Rdr stated when caught wide early & he eased back to obtain cover 3 wide, at rear of field near 800m. Rdr stated mount dropped the bit & he had to encourage it along to hold posn. Rdr stated mount failed to sprint quickly with heavy weight app h/turn however worked into sprint & best work was over final 200m. Magic Alibi Blundered shortly after the start. When qst re leading, rdr std instr wrre to end mount jumped, as it had tendency to miss start. Said antic mount would take up a fwd pos behind leaders & when it began well elected to made use of start & go fwd & cross rnr. Added whilst was not his intention to lead event felt mount was able to obt this pos without having to be pressured in early stgs. Trn conf instr & also to ride with cvr behind leaders.
