When questd as to performance Jockey A Chau stated the gelding was under pressure passing the 700m and proved disappointing. Jockey Chau was unable to offer any explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race vet. exam revealed no abnormalities. Stable representative M Sharpe was of opinion that the gelding may be better suited when ridden less aggressively early and may be better suited on a bigger track. Ms Sharpe undertook to advise stewards of any abnormalities that may come to light.

Shortly after the start, the saddle on EXCELAMOUR shifted back and the mare attempted to buck placing its rider at a significant disadvantage. A short distance later, EXCELAMOUR was eased out of the race near the 900m when Jockey R Plumb was of the belief the mare was stepping short behind. A post-race veterinary examination revealed EXCELAMOUR to be lame in the off hind leg. Connections were advised that they must obtain a veterinary clearance prior to the mares next race start.
