When questioned regarding the performance of the filly rdr stated that his mount travelled fairly in the early stages however was under pressure to hold its position from the 800m. Rdr added that his mount failed to sprint strongly on straightening but rather ground its way to the line. Rdr stated that whilst his mount did not feel to resent the heavy track conditions he does feel it is better suited to firmer going. A post race veterinary examination of the filly did not reveal any abnormality.

Rep advised that the gelding will now be spelled.

Orman was fined $100 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m. Trainer P. Jenkins was reminded of his obligation under AR100(1)(a) to inform stewards if it is his intention to have his runner ridden in a manner different to how it was ridden at its most recent start.

Du Plessis stated his mount travelled well in a favourable position until asked for a response on straightening and at that point became awkward in its action and weakened. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer’s representative Mr M. Henderson indicated they would have veterinary tests performed during the week and would report back to stewards the results. He also added that, in his opinion, the horse may not have appreciated the soft racing surface.

Rdr stated his mount was under pressure passing the 600m and commenced to give ground rounding the home turn when not comfortable in the heavy conditions. When questioned, trainer stated that it was the filly’s first start for her stable and it was first up after a lengthy spell on heavy track conditions on which she did not believe it handled. P/R vet exam no ab's.
