When questioned regarding tactics adopted rider K Cowan stated instructions were to attempt to lead however when runners improved to her inside approaching the 800 metres she was caught racing three wide without cover. Stewards, in assessing the ride of apprentice Cowan, advised in future she should show greater flexibility as the race unfolds, and not become too tied down to instructions and thus afford her mounts the best opportunity to finish their race off.

When questioned regarding whether he was able to improve to the outside of the heels of CHEVRONS’N’ROCKERS rather than persisting for a run to the inside of that runners’ heels, rider J Murphy advised that initially he intended to improve to the outside however he had concerns with how well the gelding was travelling that point, so he elected to persist with a run to the inside. He further added in highsight he should have made more of an effort to improve to the outside of heels of CHEVRONS’N’ROCKERS which would have afforded him clear and uninterrupted running, rather than being held up.
