Subsequently declared a late scratching at 1:34 pm on veterinary advice when found to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer B Chessher was advised COURTINGROCK would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start.

Fractious in barriers and was passed fit to start. Warning placed on horse. Began awkwardly. Overraced in the early and middle stages. Steadied off heels near the 800m. Rdr said mount was agitated prior to race and after beginning awkwardly settled further back. Added mount then overraced and was disappointing. Post race vet exam revealed no abs.

On arriving on-course slipped in the tie-up stalls, sustained a minor abrasion to the off foreleg, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Bumped and taken in at the start. Raced three wide in the early stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare had bled from both nostrils for the first time. Under the provisions of AR79(4) representative for Trainer G Heinrich was advised MY ADELINE would be stood down from racing for a period of 3 months and must gallop 1000 metres in the presence of a Steward prior to its next race start.

Stewards questioned jockey A. Spinks in relation to his riding of HOPEFUL STAR in the home straight. Of particular concern to stewards, was jockey Spinks’ vigour on the mare over the concluding stages. Jockey Spinks advised that approaching the home turn, the mare commenced to hang in and as a result, he elected to pull the whip through to the right hand in an endeavour to correct the mare’s racing manners.
