Raced three wide throughout. Stewards questioned Jockey D Hayse regarding the tactics adopted. Jockey Hayse advised that his instructions were to race in a forward position and nearing the 800 metres when racing three wide he was of the view that MYSTIC FORCES, which was racing to his inside, may have taken cover but shortly thereafter its rider elected to push forward and retain its position thus leaving CRUISE POWER three wide. Stewards noted his comments.

Trainer J. Wehlow was advised that the gelding must trial on 3 separate occasions to the satisfaction of the stewards before being permitted to race again.

Over the final 100m when tiring, was bumped by STEELZ TIME, which shifted out slightly, then a short distance later, laid in and became awkwardly placed at the heels of STEELZ TIME and clipped heels and blundered. When asked to explained the tactics adopted, jockey E. Smith stated that after beginning moderately, as instructed she rode forward in an attempt to cross to the lead approaching the 900m however was unable to cross runners to her inside and then was caught 3 wide without cover. Stewards accepted her explanation

Near the 800m the mare laid in despite the efforts of Jockey P.Cullen, severely checking the running of TAPTHETILL. PREMIERE PLACE, which was racing to the outside of TAPTHETILL was also inconvenienced. Shortly after Jockey Cullen eased HOSTILE LILY out of the race. A post race vet inspection revealed the mare to be lame in the near foreleg.
