When questioned rider explained he was instructed to lead and ensure the event was run at a genuine tempo and after being wide and having to do some work in order to obtain the lead it had been his desire to gain some respite through the middle stages, however his mount received pressure from Bucks which was racing to his outside. He added his mount which was racing in blinkers for the 1st time commenced to race keenly and he felt he was in a position where he was unable to restrain and surrender the lead
