When questioned regarding the poor performance Jockey said that after slipping behind on jumping, his mount never travelled comfortably at any stage and was constantly under pressure and weakened noticeably in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer undertook to report back in the days subsequent to the event.

Stewards questioned jockey A. Spinks regarding the tactics he adopted on his mount in sitting outside the lead in today's event which was in contrast to the horse's established racing pattern. He indicated that the horse was inclined to overrace in the early stages and as there was a distinct lack of pace in the race he was unable to fulfil his instructions which was to ride the horse in the second half of the field. Jockey Spinks therefore elected to allow his mount to stride forward to secure a position closer to the fence. |
