Stewards questioned jockey D. Evans regarding the tactics adopted and the overall performance of the horse. Of concern to stewards was that the horse led at its only start and in today’s event settled at the tail of the field. Jockey Evans explained that he had intended to lead, however the horse began awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with a runner to his outside. Despite his urgings in the early stages the horse did not muster speed and he was obliged to settle at the tail of the field. Slow to begin. Rider said advised the gelding failed to travel comfortably at any stage of the event, became very awkward in its action in the home straight and was eased down over the final 300m. Trainer indicated that he supported the comments of jockey Marshall as the horse, in his opinion, did become awkward over the final 300m and gave an undertaking to advise stewards should anything come to light in coming days that may have affected the performance. Stewards advised Mr Butterworth that the gelding must barrier trial prior to racing again. Vetted, no significant findings.
