When questioned regarding the tactics adopted, jockey S Wiseman stated she was under no real instructions other than to be slightly more positive as she was of the opinion that there was no real pace in the race and her mount was stepping up in distance. She added GLADISHING jumped well and was able to take up a position in the lead without much effort. Trainers representative M Stephens concurred with jockey Wiseman and added that GLADISHING is a one paced horse and with the step up in distance, felt that racing closer to the speed would benefit the gelding.

A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. When questioned, trainer Mr T. Cook stated that UMBERTO had pleased in its work leading up to today’s event and it was his intention to continue with its preparation. Stewards advised Mr Cook that due to the disappointing performance, UMBERTO would require a veterinary clearance prior to a future race. Since received.
