When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, jockey J Stanley stated that his mount was inclined to race keenly in the early and middles stages and never felt comfortable throughout the event. He added that in his opinion, VERNAZZA failed to handle the increase in distance and would be better suited over a shorter distance. Trainer P Fleming concurred the views of J Stanley and would now look to drop VERNAZZA back in distance.
