When quest re perf. rdr stated mount failed to travel comfortably at any stage of event & he was required to continually encourage it along to hold posn. Rdr stated mount just ground to line from midfield posn. Rdr stated mount raced with a high head carriage & in his opinion raced like a horse that did not appreciate the tight turning circuit. Tnr stated that the only additional explanation he could offer was geld did not appreciate heavy wgt impost. P/R vet exam no ab's.

COT: To be ridden further fwd w/- option to lead; settled on pace. Rdr rpt he was obliged to make more use of mnt to obtain a prominent position due to the solid tempo throughout early stages. Added after obtaining a position outside leader passing the 1100m mnt commenced to travel well, however near the 700m came under pressure, did not respond to his riding and weakened noticeably over final 300m. Tnr rep expressed disappointment with performance and undertook to report back to Stwds on post-race condition and future race plans.

Tactics queried in particular the reasons in the middle stages, after gaining cover behind the leaders rider elected to pressure mount and ride forward. Rider stated that it was his intention to lead however this did not eventuate due to the pressure in the early stages and when the pace steadied from the 1200m, he elected to improve as the gelding is one paced. Further added his mount was under pressure from the 600m and compounded. Vet exam, short in front. Vet cert required.
