Stable representative advised that the stable was disappointed with the gelding's first up performance and as such elected to re-apply blinkers on the gelding in the hope this may improve its competitive chances. Stable representative was advised that the gelding would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to being permitted to race again.

A post-race veterinary examination revealed it was sore in the near fore fetlock and was also lame in the near fore. It was noted that Trainer T Cowan will be advised that he must provide a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to racing or trialling again. Mr Cowan will also advised that SERIGALA must compete satisfactorily in a barrier trial prior to racing again.

When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding, Jockey S Collett advised that her mount failed to settle in the early stages of the event and may not have appreciated the firm track surface. She added that in her opinion BADGERS NUTS (NZ) would be better suited racing on surfaces with greater give but would derive benefit from today’s run. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

When asked to comment on tactics adopted from the 500 metres rider A Mallyon explained when the pace quickened from the 600 metres MORETHANNUMBERONE was travelling only fairly and he was reluctant to come wider on the track as in his opinion the horse is better suited to racing on bigger tracks. A Mallyon added he was disappointed today with the overall performance and that MORETHANNUMBERONE is better suited to races over a shorter distance than today’s 1600 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stewards noted the explanation.
