Henry's Affair Stewards questioned apprentice N. Keal regarding his riding of the horse, particularly in the early stages where it appeared the gelding lost touch with the remainder of the field. Apprentice Keal indicated he had been instructed to allow the horse to settle in the early stages because it has not raced favourably when ridden aggressively in the early stages. Those instructions were confirmed by trainer T. Thomas. After viewing the patrol footage with stewards, apprentice Keal stated in hindsight when the horse commenced to lose ground from the 800m he had been slow to react in placing fur Sunshine Coast 14/01/2018

La Chatte Slow to begin. When the pace slackened after passing the 900m had to be steadied from heels. Held up for clear running from approaching the 600m until entering the home straight. Sunshine Coast 04/03/2018
Coochin Boy Trainer questioned re improved performance - stated gelding worked and trialled well throughout its current campaign. However it failed to perform accordingly when challenged in the lead in races over a shorter distance. Noted today gelding began well and was able to lead and dictate terms over longer distance of 1400m, which he attributes to its improved performance. Gold Coast 03/03/2018
Vital Love When asked to comment on the performance, jockey B. Grylls indicated that after being tightened for room at the start, the horse raced somewhat field shy and she was obliged to pressure her mount in order to remain in touch with the main body of the field, however finished the race off well. Golden Sheaf Trainer D. Vandyke advised that the horse, which was ridden forward and contested the lead at its previous start, would be ridden off the speed today if circumstances permit. The horse settled in a midfield position. Ipswich 14/07/2017

Skyscraper Slow into stride. Shifted out after leaving the 400m to secure clear running and in doing so made contact with another runner. Sunshine Coast 02/03/2018
Aristocat Stewards asked jockey D. Browne to comment on the performance, which was below market expectations. He indicated that he was extremely disappointed with the performance after having travelled in a favourable position behind the lead throughout the event and travelled strongly after passing the 600m, the horse failed to respond to his riding after passing the 500m and weakened badly in the home straight. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities and a swab sample was taken. Trainer Mr S. Bauhinia Storm Jockey J. Stanley reported that his mount was inclined to hang in in the early stages, however travelled strongly in the middles stages. He added that from the 500m, when asked to improve into the race, the gelding failed to quicken as he had anticipated and in the home straight felt very awkward in its action, and he therefore eased the horse down over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. In light of jockey Stanley’s comments, Stewards will follow-up with Trainer D. Brains Slow to begin. Steadied from heels near the 1100m. When questioned regarding the horse’s performance, V. Johnston stated that the gelding could not muster early speed and in her view is looking for distances further than 1200m.
