Trainer C. Waller advised that it is the intention for the gelding to be ridden further forward today if circumstances permit. When questioned by Stewards regarding the gelding’s performance, jockey M. Cahill advised that after being slow to begin the gelding failed to muster early speed, and due to the fast early tempo was hard ridden at the tail of the field for the majority of the race to hold its position. He added that in the home straight the gelding ran on fairly, and he believes that the horse may be better suited over further distances. A post-race vet exam revealed no abnormalities.

Mr Currie advised that at the Gold Coast the instructions were to push forward and lead if possible, however, after being hampered at the start, the colt settled further back than he would have wished. He said that the instructions today were always to go forward, the same as those issued at the previous start.

Cormack stated that the gelding could not muster any early speed and despite his urgings did not make any ground, and when placed under pressure from the 600m failed to respond. Jockey Cormack added that, in his view, the gelding would be better suited in races over a further distance, and that the horse would take a fitness benefit from today’s race. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
