The near side winker became detached passing the 700m. Rider asked to comment re tactics - explained instructions were from wide barrier to be neutral and ride in a rearward position to give it a chance to finish race off. Stated even though it was a small field he was of the opinion gelding was unable to make up the amount of ground over final stages due to today’s track conditions. Trainer confirmed instructions given as the gelding had previously failed to finish off its races when ridden in a forward position.
