Lunged forward in the barriers just prior to the start being effected and made contact with the gate. The filly then put its head down and, as a result, lost considerable ground on jumping away. As Stewards were satisfied that the only reason for the filly losing ground at the start was its own manners, the horse was a confirmed starter.

When questioned regarding the performance of the filly rider stated that after beginning awkwardly he elected to ease back to obtain a position with cover at the tail of the field. Added that his mount was inclined to overrace and lay out throughout the early and middle stages. Further stated that when placed under pressure down the straight his mount failed to respond and was disappointing in its run to the line, whilst still inclined to lay out. A post race veterinary examination of the filly did not reveal any abnormality.

Cahill indicated that at no stage did he feel the horse travelled comfortably in the rain affected conditions, and this was the only tangible explanation he could offer for the performance. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Stewards will follow up with trainer D. VanDyke in the coming days in regards to the horse’s performance.
