Rider quested re tactics adopted in particular when racing outside leader approaching home turn where gelding shifted wider on the course forcing RULER, which was racing to its outside, also wider. In doing so this afforded racing room to the inside of CONQUER THE STARS. Stated instructions were to lead or settle outside leader and be mindful gelding performed best previously when racing to outside of other runners. Trainer confirmed instructions who indicated he had supported gelding and was satisfied with ride.

Stewards inquired into an incident which occurred near the 800m. It was found that ALPINE DANCER, whilst overracing, had galloped on GREGORY. As a result of this, GREGORY became very awkward and apprentice S. Thornton, rider of GREGORY, elected to restrain her mount from the event as she felt the horse had suffered an injury. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Stewards considered the actions of apprentice Thornton were reasonable in the circumstances. Trainer reported the horse had worked well subsequently.
