When asked to comment on the performance rider E McPherson stated the gelding travelled comfortably behind the leader in the early stages of the event however when placed under pressure from the 500 metres failed to respond to her riding and was disappointing. Trainer R Drysdale was of the opinion MA DUSHKA would derive significant fitness benefit from the run. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting signs of the thumps.

Trainer D White was advised that the nominations of CHILLI PILLS would be refused in TAB regions until the filly can prove its consistency at NON-TAB venues.

Slow to muster speed in the early stages. Near the 100 metres was crowded for room and obliged to shift out across the heels of DIFFICULT which shifted in under pressure. Apprentice A Ross reported KIPCHOGE was reluctant to stretch out on the sand surface in the early stages of the event however from the 400 metres responded when placed under pressure and found the line well, adding that the gelding would appreciate distances longer than that of today.
