Jockey J. Stanley advised that in his opinion the gelding had raced disappointingly today being unable to produce its normal sprint. It was revealed on returning to the enclosure that PURE HAWK had lost its off fore plate in running. Trainer Mr J. Caught felt that the gelding may not have backed up after its recent first up run and also felt that today’s sultry weather conditions may have been a factor. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be mildly lame in the off fore leg.
