Mr Misunderstood
|
Raced keenly in the early and middle stages despite the rider’s efforts to restrain. Returned to the enclosure with blood present in one nostril. The veterinary surgeon was satisfied that the presence of blood was as a result of external trauma and no action was taken. Apprentice C. Frater-Hill expressed disappointment with the performance of the gelding, which she advised raced very one-paced in today’s event.

When questioned regarding the horse’s disappointing performance, E. Ljung stated that the filly did not travel well throughout and raced greenly today and may not have been suited by the three weeks since its last start. Trainer B. Currie advised that the horse may be better suited racing on the speed in future starts and he will review the horse’s current preparation before determining whether the horse will be sent for a spell.

Stewards questioned apprentice R. Goldsbury regarding the tactics adopted in today’s event, in particular in the early stages of the race. Apprentice Goldsbury explained that whilst no specific riding instructions were issued, the filly has been ridden in rearward positions at its prior 2 starts and thought the filly would be best suited racing with cover. Apprentice Goldsbury also stated that when attempting to move away from the rail near the 200m, the filly hung in noticeably, which inhibited her from gaining a run to the inside DIAMOND ACCOUNT which was racing tightly to her outside unt

Hampered on jumping. Tightened for room shortly after the start. Raced wide with cover throughout. When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding, which was heavily backed, jockey M. Du Plessis said the gelding was fractious in the enclosure and after jumping raced somewhat keenly throughout. He added that in his opinion the gelding was disadvantaged today, being three weeks between runs and stepping up to the 1625m in today’s event for the first occasion. He said that whilst it may have appeared to be disappointing, in his opinion the gelding would take significant benefit from it.

Blundered rounding the home turn. Stewards questioned apprentice R. Goldsbury as to the reason for steadying her mount near the 800m to allow ALL OUR WIVES to cross after having maintained the lead from the start. Stewards accepted the explanation, however, advised apprentice Goldsbury that in similar circumstances she should be mindful of her positioning in races as the option she took at this point resulted in her mount being held up for clear running rounding the home turn when ALL OUR WIVES commenced to weaken.
