When questioned regarding the tactics adopted in the early stages, Jockey A Fancourt stated that her instructions were to attempt to obtain the lead as the gelding has previously performed well when ridden in that manner. Ms Fancourt added that in an effort to comply with those instructions she rode the gelding vigorously in the initial 200m, however, after realising she was unable to cross forward of MALCRIADO, she took hold in an attempt to settle the gelding but despite her efforts it refused to settle until a point near the 900m.

A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which tailed off, revealed the horse to be suffering from cardiac arrhythmia, and to be mildly lame in the near fore leg. Trainer S. Thomas was advised that prior to racing again he will be required to produce a veterinary clearance for the gelding, including the results of an ECG, and the horse must barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards.
