  4. Deagon Racecourse Master Planning

In 2019, Racing Queensland announced that we would commence concept master planning at Deagon Racecourse with a view to establishing a multi-purpose State Training Centre.

Under our proposal, the State Training Centre would create a world-class training and education facility for the racing industry which is expected to create 60 new jobs in the region.

Just as importantly, the master planning process will allow us to explore ways that could open up the Deagon Racecourse to the public and provide enhanced amenity to the community through a variety of uses.

As part of the master planning process, community engagement is pivotal to our plans, with Deagon Racecourse synonymous with the Sandgate region.

Racing Queensland will soon commence working with the local community to gather ideas on what you would like to see as part of Deagon Racecourse.

Additional uses that could benefit the community and assist in activating the local area include:

  • Community sporting facilities;
  • Farmers markets;
  • Dining;
  • Retail;
  • Entertainment; and
  • Accommodation.

Racing Queensland is seeking to be involved in the update of the plan to ensure both BCC and community objectives can be incorporated into the masterplan for Deagon Racecourse.
