A new era in Brisbane racing gets underway when trainers Rob Heathcote and Chris Anderson begin their new training partnership at Eagle Farm on Wednesday.

Heathcote has been training for 22 years and is a five-times winner of the Brisbane trainers’ premiership.

Anderson was a former beer salesman before starting up training seven years ago and is regarded as one of the bright young stars in Brisbane’s training ranks.

Both have been close friends for many years and decided to form a training partnership to better service their clients.

“There’s been a lot of work go into this behind the scenes and our approach is two heads are better than one,” Anderson said.

“It’s all designed to be in the best interest of our owners and horses.”

Anderson said the partnership had six runners on Wednesday but some had drawn poorly.

“Unfortunately, of our six runners a few have drawn poorly so we probably won’t know which ones are running until race day,” he said.

Heathcote said the partnership would have around 100 horses in work at Eagle Farm.

“It sounds like a big number but we’re seeking to do a better job for our owners with more resources,” he said.

“There’s been a lot of work go into this behind the scenes and no doubt there’ll be some teething problems early on.”

Heathcote named Elementae in the Maiden Plate (1200m) as the pick of his stable runners along with Downloading in the Class Four Handicap (1600m).

Elementae was trained by Gerald Ryan in Sydney before having his first start for Heathcote when fourth in a 1015-metre maiden at Ipswich on April 17.

“Elementae is probably the best of our runners tomorrow after running a nice fourth in a benchmark race at Ipswich,” Heathcote said.

“Downloading also has a great chance after running third last start when he was just caught on the line.”
