2017 Magic Millions FNQ Up & Coming Stayers Series champion trainer John Manzelmann went a step closer to regaining his title following a series opening victory at Einasleigh.

Developed by the FNQ race clubs, the series is a group of races with above standard prize money, specifically programmed to cater for racehorses rated less than Open Class.

The series does not culminate in a final, but there is an owners and trainers bonus based on points accrued across the eight races.

Manzelmann posted the first three points for trainers when jockey Wanderson D'Avila guided former Victorian mare Sirius Witness to a 1.8L win over Collywobble on April 20.

Manzelmann won the 2017 series by a long margin and picked up the $2000 trainers' bonus thanks to Magic Millions.

The leading trainer in 2019 will again be eligible for a $2000 bonus, with the owners of the leading horse to pick up a $4000 bonus.

The second leg of the series takes place at Mt Garnet on May 3.
