The inaugural champion of the Magic Millions Raceday is being honoured with the renaming of one of the million dollar feature races on the $10 million card.

Snippets, who scored a runaway win in the 1987 Magic Millions 2YO Classic, is remembered fondly as the patron saint of Magic Millions and his legacy for the sales company and raceday will now be celebrated each year.

Magic Millions and Racing Queensland are proud to announce that the $1 million Magic Millions Sprint, sponsored by Harrolds, will now be known as the Magic Millions Snippets in 2018 and beyond.

In an amazing act of generosity from the Augustine family, the original trophy presented in 1987 will become the perpetual trophy for the now Magic Millions Snippets.

“This is the only race on our $10 million day named after a horse,” Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox said. “It’s fitting that it’s Snippets - the original champion of Magic Millions, sold at our very first auction and the horse who helped an incredible innovation become reality.”

“We thank the Augustine family for donating the original trophy to be used as the perpetual trophy for the Magic Millions Snippets - we can’t wait for this new presentation in just over two weeks time.”

A winner of nine races, including five at two, Snippets retired to stud after winning three Group One races - the AJC Sires’ Produce Stakes, Galaxy Handicap and Oakleigh Plate.

In the breeding barn Snippets produced 601 individual winners, at a winners to runners percentage of over 81%. His stars included Group One winners Spartacus, Casual Pass, Hasna, Pins, Snowland and Sky Cuddle. His daughters have produced Group One winners Red Tracer, Snitzel, Bel Sprinter, Shellscrape, Overreach, Magnus, Unearthly, Crystal Lily, Merchant Navy, Wanted and Caulfield Cup winner Boom Time.

The $1 million Harrolds Magic Millions Snippets (1200m) will be run on January 13 - one of nine races on the $10 million Magic Millions Raceday at the Gold Coast Turf Club.

The build up to Magic Millions Raceday intensifies on Saturday when Doomben hosts the Road to Magic Millions Raceday in Brisbane. There are four wildcard chances on the day to win a spot into one of the world’s richest racedays.
