Team Edmonds is hoping talented mare Sylpheed can gain a “wild card” entry into next month’s Magic Millions Fillies & Mares race at the Gold Coast after claiming her first Stakes race at Doomben on Saturday.

Sylpheed, ridden by Toowoomba’s Nozi Tomizawa, outclassed her opposition to down Denmagic by 1-1/4 lengths in the Listed Just Now Quality (1350m).

Early leader Sheiswhatsheis battled on well for third, a further neck away.

Trainer Toby Edmonds watched the race from New Zealand and left son Trent to handle the stable duties at Doomben.

“She’s owned by a Japanese chap who likes Nozi and wanted him to ride her,” Trent Edmonds said.

“She was bought for $36,000 at the Magic Millions but wasn’t paid up so hopefully she can get into the Fillies & Mares race with a wildcard.

“She was Stakes placed twice during the winter and now she’s finally broken through which will boost her broodmare value.”

Edmonds said the four-year-old had been ridden too positively after her previous starts including her last start third to Notonyourlife in the Listed UBET Classic at Doomben last month.

Earlier Gold Coast youngster Blue Book dented some Magic Millions Classic hopefuls with an easy win in the QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap (1200m).

Ridden by Michael Rodd, Blue Book sat off the speed before pouncing on the leaders in the home straight to down Fullazaboot by three-quarters of a length.

King Of The North finished third, a further half length away.

Blue Book’s win maintained his unbeaten record after winning twice at Doomben last month.

Blue Book and King Of The North were the only runners ineligible for the $2 million Magic Millions Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast on January 13.

A son of Denmarket, Blue Book was bred by his owner Phil Sullivan who has been a long-time client of the gelding’s trainer, Kelly Doughty.

Sullivan has knocked back offers to sell Blue Book who will now spell ahead of a Brisbane winter carnival campaign next year.

“He’s done a great job and will go for a spell now and probably come back in time for the winter,” Doughty said.

Doughty believes Blue Book will furnish into an even better three-year-old next season.
