Versatile Zoustyle ready for distance test at Doomben.

By Glenn Davis

Premier trainer Tony Gollan has warned exciting three-year-old Zoustyle doesn’t have to lead to maintain his unbeaten record in the Winning Rupert Plate at Doomben today.

Zoustyle will be stepping up to 1200 metres for the first time in the Winning Rupert Plate after winning up to 1110 metres in his three previous starts at Doomben and the Sunshine Coast.

Zoustyle, who drew ideally in barrier two, is ineligible for the Magic Millions after being withdrawn from sale at both the Sydney Easter and Magic Millions sales as a yearling.

“From his good barrier he should jump and go straight to the front but he doesn’t have to lead,” Gollan said.

“He’s very versatile and can take a sit if something wants to take him on.”

Gollan has played down the big wraps on the son of Zoustar.

Zoustar was a dual Group 1 winner of the Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington and Golden Rose at Rosehill in 2013.

“He’s a very exciting horse who is building on his record and I’ve got no doubt he’ll have no problem getting 1200 metres.” he said.

“I’m not getting carried away with the wraps on him and we’ve got nothing big planned for him yet.

“At this stage, he’ll go on to the Gold Edition Plate at Doomben in a fortnight then his owners and I will sit down for a chat about his future.

“We’re nowhere near the bottom of him yet.”

Zoustyle will be one of 10 starters for Gollan at Doomben.

He also has a strong hand in the Group 3 George Moore Stakes with Most Important and I’m a Rippa, Country Cocktail in the Sizzling Plate while he has a trio of runners in the Listed Mode Plate with Outback Barbie, Singular Sensation and Shamurt.

Gollan is also upbeat about the prospects of Outback Barbie in the Mode Plate (1200m).

Outback Barbie has no luck in three Group 2 runs in Sydney and is having her first start since finishing seventh in the Tea Rose at Randwick on September 15.

The daughter of Spirit Of Boom previously ran fifth in the Furious Stakes and second in the Silver Shadow Stakes, both at Randwick.

“She’s drawn good and should get a nice run and is due for change of luck after her Sydney performances,” Gollan said.

Outback Barbie has pleased Gollan since returning from Sydney and won a barrier trial at Doomben on November 20 when ridden by race jockey Jim Byrne.
