Grant Dixon has plenty to consider in the coming weeks.

And accommodation and flights are a top priority.

The top Brisbane based horseman will be venturing south of the border chasing bigger riches with his pair of exciting three-year-olds Colt Thirty One and Fame Assured.

As it stands, Dixon will return to Melbourne this weekend to partner Colt Thirty One in the Gr.1 $200,000 VHRSC Victoria Derby at TABCORP Park, Melton.

Last week, the Mach Three colt was pipped right on the line behind highly regarded local colt Poster Boy in a qualifying heat when starting as an odds-on favourite.

Colt Thirty One must overcome a second-line draw in the final after landing gate 11, and as a result of the tricky draw, he is odds have lengthened considerably as a direct result of the draw.

“The draw is not ideal and we’re now relying on some luck, in particular, with many of the fancied rivals drawing off the front-line. I was satisfied with his effort last week, we run home in sub 27 seconds and got beat, you can’t really do much about that.” Dixon said.

Win, lose or draw in the Victoria Derby, Dixon will head to Sydney and chase a start in the Gr.1 $200,000 NSW Derby at TABCORP Park, Menangle next month.

Emerging filly Fame Assured will link with Colt Thirty One in Sydney and contest the Gr.1 $200,000 NSW Oaks, her maiden trip away.

Fame Assured remained unbeaten this campaign with another impressive display at Albion Park yesterday (Tuesday) when proving successful in the $10,540 Pot of Gold Final in a time of 1:53.9.

The Mach Three filly is perfect this season winning all four starts.

“I’m thrilled with the way she has returned this campaign, she feels bigger and stronger and her efforts reflect that to date. I was a little concerned with how she paced a little roughly into the first turn but we’ll look at making a slight adjustment to rectify that.

“The NSW Oaks has been a target for her from the start of this campaign and she’s definitely trekking in the right direction. Obviously it’s going to be very strong opposition but she deserves her shot and the big track will suit her.”

Both Colt Thirty One and Fame Assured are raced by their breeders, Kevin and Kay Seymour.
