Sennachie has etched his name into history by taking out the inaugural $235,000 Group 1 Garrard’s Gold Bullion Final over 520 metres at Albion Park on Friday night.

The track record holder overcame a tricky draw from box five and jumped straight to the front, putting an early two length lead on red-hot favourite Feral Franky.

Sennachie extended his lead by five lengths down the back straight and eventually put 10 on the place getters as he passed the post, taking home $150,000 in the process.

The 29.41 second dash means he now holds the three fastest times recorded over 520 metres at Albion Park, coming within 0.03 seconds of the mark he set when taking out the $375,000 Group 1 Brisbane Cup in July 2019.

Second in the running was Good Odds Harada, who tracked the back of Feral Franky for the majority of the race before whipping to his outside prior to the final turn and pushing past the $2.50 favourite.

“I can’t give anymore accolades for the dog because I really wasn’t expecting what I saw tonight,” Sennachie’s trainer Steve White said.

“I go into all my races feeling pretty confident but tonight I had some doubt because I thought he had all the good dogs drawn underneath him and if he doesn’t come out well then it’s not going to happen.

“He has to lead, that’s exactly what he did and he just gapped them open from there.

“He’s a real superstar, he always has been and that’s his third Group 1 so I’m really ecstatic.

Earlier in the evening, True Detective took full advantage of the favourable box one draw to take out the listed $110,000 Garrard’s Gold Cup Final over 710 metres.

He overcame a mid-race challenge from Bago Bye Bye to keep his cool and lead start to finish, saluting at $5 on the TAB.

“He loves box one and we are just really pleased with what we saw tonight,” kennel representative James Shaw said.

“He’s got a big future this dog, and hopefully he can push on now to get another Group 1 but I’m just rapt with tonight’s effort.”

The Golden Greys Summer Carnival concludes in two weeks’ time with the running of the $60,000 Group 3 Box 1 Photography Golden Sands final over 600 metres.
