Talented sprinter I’m A Rippa has become the latest $1 million prizemoney earner with a heart-stopping victory in the Listed Eye Liner Stakes at Ipswich on Saturday.

Ridden by Jim Byrne, I’m A Rippa led most of the way before being headed in the straight in the 1350-metre feature by Tyzone.

However, I’m A Rippa got off the canvas to fight back for a half head win over Tyzone with Privlaka third, a further 2-1/2 lengths away.

Gollan, who won the Eye Liner Stakes in 2014 with Alma’s Fury, conceded the victory was not good for his health.

“It was too exciting for the heart,” Gollan said.

“I don’t want many finishes like that again.

“This horse has got a great will to win and never knows when to lay down.”

Gollan heaped praise on Byrne who is regarded as the King Of Ipswich.

“Jim is a master around Ipswich. He’s the one you want at Ipswich," he said.

Gollan had planned to target the Listed Glasshouse Handicap at the Sunshine Coast in two weeks with I’m A Rippa but now may spell him to aim for the Brisbane summer carnival.

Earlier Trainer Matt Dunn didn’t know where to look until he saw the colours of Zamex sweeping down the outside to claim the Ipswich Mile (1666m).

Dunn had four runners in the Ipswich Mile but it was Zamex who stood out late with a flashing finish to down El Campeador by three-quarters of a length with Denbern only a short neck away, third.

Dunn said Zamex appreciated the solid tempo at Ipswich after a few luckless runs.

“There’s not many run on tracks here at the moment so it was good to get on a track where you didn’t have to be in the first three,” Dunn said.

“He’s been racing well but without luck and he got a decent tempo today.

“He likes to get back in his races and come to the outside so it was good to see him win so well.”

Dunn believes Zamex has a bright future but will keep him to sprint distances for the immediate future.
