Punter's Guide to Thoroughbred Tracks
A tricky race to open proceedings at headquarters but in a race that looks flush with front line speed, looking to the swooper, MAKOA (11) to start the night with a win. Strong in the closing stages last start when 2nd to TULHURST ACE, that followed a tidy win when sprinting hard. Just needs the pace.
PARISIAN ROCKSTAR (2) found the right conditions 2 start back when holding the front from gate 3 and once in control played the right tunes to score a comfortable victory. Not suited from gate 7 when retreating last start, he can fire out early and will be looking to grip on.
OUR MAJOR DAY (10) was returning from a let-up last start when unable to find position in the run, he was then chasing from too far back. Securing the right run home, he won’t be far away.
RUTHLESS ARMBRO (1) will find this a step up from his latest win, but he comes into this in the right form. Taking them all the way to win a qualifier last start from this gate, he will be in for the fight.
SELECTIONS: MAKOA (11), PARISIAN ROCKSTAR (2), OUR MAJOR DAY (10), RUTHLESS ARMBRO (1)
SUGGESTED BET: MAKOA (11) to win
UTAB F4 Jackpot: 1-2-11 / 1-2-10-11 / 1-2-10-11 / 1-2-8-10-11-12
HEZ ALL COURAGE (1) started fav from gate 10 last time out and was a long way back in the pack when trying to work home over the mile. That followed successive 2nd placed runs, behind in-form pacers on both occasions. With the options this looks his chance to open his band assessment
RAYS CHOICE (5) is screaming out to win a race here in Qld, catching the eye at his past 2 starts. Sent forward to the breeze here on Tues from gate 7, he knuckled down to grind it out and was 3m from the winner TOM ME GUN. He made good ground from the rear 2 starts back and can challenge here.
ASHKII (3) sat in the pocket trail from inside the 2nd line last start and chased hard to claim the silver behind RUTHLESS ARMBRO. Fighting hard from the breeze 2 starts back, he is in the mix here.
CLARRY (9) just can’t seem to find the right conditions, but continues to return runs full of merit. Too far back last start in the electric mile set up from the front, if he gets the right run, he can go close.
SELECTIONS: HEZ ALL COURAGE (1), RAYS CHOICE (5), ASHKII (3), CLARRY (9)
SUGGESTED BET: HEZ ALL COURAGE (1) to win
CHARLYSE (4) started from the 2nd line last start when sent to the post as fav. Settling back in the pack she was attacking the line strongly when not far away from the winner. Luckless the start prior in a mares qualifier, she can look to settle closer from an improved gate and with solid pressure descend upon them in the stretch.
TASSINI (8) wasn’t suited last start when snagging back from gate 5 over the 2138m trip and was too far back to work into the contest. She attacked the line strongly here 3 starts back when buried on the pegs and with the right run here can be ready to take the closing shot.
LUCKY LYLA (1) found the line in good style last start over the middle distance when 6m from the winner SPEEDIE MCARDLE. Hustling hard to protect the pegs and the return to mares only grade can see her go close.
MISS PATRIOT (10) looked to take them all the way at Redcliffe 2 starts back when setting a slippery tempo and gunned down in the closing stages. Using the passing lane to score last start, she has place hopes
SELECTIONS: CHARLYSE (4), TASSINI (8), LUCKY LYLA (1), MISS PATRIOT (10)
SUGGESTED BET: CHARLYSE (4) each-way
GOTTA GO JAZZY JET (7) faces another tough gate and will find this harder than last start where she was able to overcome the same alley. Taken back early, she worked home wide out and packed too much heat to arrive over the 2138m trip. Only beaten a half-head the start prior, she can arrive.
FAME ASSURED (8) chased gamely last start and was best of the rest behind the big winner NORTHVIEW HUSTLER. A winner at her previous 2 starts at both the sprint and middle distance, she faces a sticky gate here. If seeing space with track to work with, she can throw down the challenge.
ELLE YEAH (9) returns with the travelling Dennis Picker team for a Winter campaign and arrives in good touch. A strong winner at Bathurst 2 starts back, she was narrowly beaten last start at Goulburn and stays under notice.
ROCKNROLL EMMA (2) was snagged back early last start from gate 6 before closing out strongly in some tidy sectionals to claim the silver behind TRILIGHT BRIGADE. From the good gate she can place.
SELECTIONS: GOTTA GO JAZZY JET (7), FAME ASSURED (8), ELLE YEAH (9), ROCKNROLL EMMA (2)
TOM ME GUN (8) started from gate 9 here on Tues and saved for 1 shot showed a sizzling turn of foot, getting home in sub 27 to claim a tidy win. His form leading into that had been strong without winning, with 3rds at his previous 2 starts full of merit in defeat. Will be coiled and ready for the snipers shot.
SOMEPARTYSOMEWHERE (1) will take further benefit from his latest start as he continues to get some consistent runs into the legs. Angled to the pegs from gate 10 he closed out well when within 8m of the winner. Only beaten 5m in a sizzling mile 2 starts back, he can look to dictate.
INVINCIBLE LOXTON (3) will appreciate conditions here more so than his last start when locked away inside the 2nd line. Fitter following 2 runs back from a break, he can roll the sleeves and challenge.
ROCK WITH SAM (11) released the speed from gate 1 last start and with the perfect trip thereafter used the passing lane to claim the prize. With the right cart into the contest he can feature.
SELECTIONS: TOM ME GUN (8), SOMEPARTYSOMEWHERE (1), INVINCIBLE LOXTON (3), ROCK WITH SAM (11)
SUGGESTED BET: TOM ME GUN (8) to win
After initially under-selling the performance of COLT THIRTY ONE (12) last time out, upon closer look, the run was a superb effort, further highlighted by the fact the time broke the 4YO track record for the 2138m trip. He has no favours from the gate here, but can take the next step towards the Carnival and breakthrough the $500k stakes barrier with the win.
CLINTAL DO (10) drifted back from gate 5 last start when taking on open company and closed out strongly, laying down some sharp sectionals in the run home. He will take benefit from that outing after being 1st up from a let-up and with the right cart home will swoop hard.
THE FAITHFUL (1) had little luck last time out when wide early trying to find a forward position yet ended up snagging back when unable to slot in. With the benefit of the improved gate and added fitness, he is in the mix.
SPIKE BROMAC (8) sat in the pocket trail last start and chased hard to claim the silver when 4m from the winner INNOCENT CROCKER. He will be probing for the gaps again here and can chime in late.
SELECTIONS: COLT THIRTY ONE (12), CLINTAL DO (10), THE FAITHFUL (1), SPIKE BROMAC (8)
SUGGESTED BET: COLT THIRTY ONE (12) to win
TENNYSON BROMAC (9) rolled forward from gate 6 to face the breeze last start over the sprint trip. In a race set up for those at the front, he was in for the fight when only fading in the closing stages behind the in-form MO CASINO. Luckless the start prior, he can press through early to take this.
OFFTHETOPOFMYHEAD (4) hasn’t had much luck in landing a marble since arriving in Qld and if he is able to find position cheaply, look for him throwing down the challenge. Forget his run last start behind OLIVER WINKLE, his sectionals 2 back were impressive and he can capitalise here.
KARINYA MULLY (1) made the most of the good alley to hustle hard in protecting the inside and then held on for a career best win. Not suited last start, he will get the options and can chime in.
ELMS CREEK (2) will need to step up taking on these opponents, but the gate helps his chances. Tough from the breeze 3 starts back at Marburg, he was an all the way winner over this trip 6 back.
SELECTIONS: TENNYSON BROMAC (9), OFFTHETOPOFMYHEAD (4), KARINYA MULLY (1), ELMS CREEK (2)
SUGGESTED BET: TENNYSON BROMAC (9) to win
GLENFERRIE HOOD (2) speared across to take up the lamp lighting duties over the 2138m trip last time out. Setting up a slick tempo over the middle distance, he was put away before the home turn by the strength of COLT THIRTY ONE. He gets back to the mile which is a big plus can see this out.
ELENIARK (4) has returned this campaign in great order and was after a hat-trick last start when landing inside the 2nd line. Buried away against the pegs her closing panels were sharp when charging to within 4m of the winner. Her win 2 starts back was big and she is right in the fight.
HOLY CAMP CLIVE (1) makes his 1st appearance this Winter and arrives with placings at his 1st 2 starts since returning from a spell. Only beaten a half-head 1st up, he can enjoy the trip from the ace.
A GOOD CHANCE (7) is racing in arguably career best form and added another placing to his tally last time out. In for the fight from the breeze from this same gate, he was game in holding on for 2nd.
SELECTIONS: GLENFERRIE HOOD (2), ELENIARK (4), HOLY CAMP CLIVE (1), A GOOD CHANCE (7)
SUGGESTED BET: GLENFERRIE HOOD (2) to win
MAYBETOTHEMAX (10) made an error last start when sent to the post as fav and that ended his night. 2 starts back he was game in defeat from a 30m tape when sent forward early to face the breeze and going within a head of victory. The mobile conditions suit and he can arrive for the prize.
EMPIRE BAY (4) will take on mobile conditions for just the 2nd time since racing in Qld with that other attempt returning a tidy 3rd when off the 2nd line. A dictating winner here 3 starts back, he has shown gate speed previously interstate. Using that speed and can give this a shake.
JUSTABITNOISY (3) is knocking on the door for a victory as he looks to overturn a winless streak that dates back to 2017. His closing panels were strong last start and he can feature.
MIRACLE RISING (8) has been kept fresh since his last appearance when proving too strong from the breeze over the 2138m stand. He will need some luck from this gate but can’t be discounted.
SELECTIONS: MAYBETOTHEMAX (10), EMPIRE BAY (4), JUSTABITNOISY (3), MIRACLE RISING (8)
SUGGESTED BET: MAYBETOTHEMAX (10) to win
Heats for this final were held at Marburg last Sunday and despite coming up with a tricky gate in this contest, GOALKICKER (8) can look to add to her heat win with victory here. Making the most from the ace, she led throughout in her heat win. She will need some factors go her way, but can prevail.
GUTS (1) started from gate 5 in his heat where he was snagged back early to find position before coming with a wide run to grab the bronze. Only 1m from the winner at Redcliffe 2 starts back, he lands his best gate for some time and with the available options will get every chance here.
JUST TOMMY (6) didn’t have the cleanest run at Redcliffe 2 starts back and from gate 10 was locked away in a mid-field finish. His heat win at Marburg was a smart effort and he can challenge.
JACKS GAMBIT (9) has placed at his past 3 in succession including a tough 2nd in his heat when doing the hard yards in the breeze. With early options to look for the pegs if on offer, he is in the mix.
SELECTIONS: GOALKICKER (8), GUTS (1), JUST TOMMY (6), JACKS GAMBIT (9)
