Racing Queensland (RQ) reminds stakeholders the Sustainability Reimbursement Scheme will end on 30 June 2019.

Since February 2018 RQ has reimbursed over 280 applications for breeding female registrations, litter registrations, and DNA analysis for named female greyhounds.

So far 1208 pups have been whelped in Queensland in this financial year, an increase of over 30% on the previous financial year. In the third quarter of this financial year the number of pups whelped exceeded the number of greyhounds retired, indicating a sustainable level of breeding has been established.

RQ discussed the current breeding trends with the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission (QRIC), and the Greyhound Racing Advisory Panel, and made the decision not to extend the Sustainability Reimbursement Scheme beyond 30 June 2019.

Any applications processed by QRIC or Greyhounds Australasia (GA) by 30 June 2019, will still be eligible for reimbursement by RQ until 31 December 2019 provided necessary paperwork is submitted.

Whilst the Reimbursement Scheme is ending, the Sustainability Payments for Queensland bred greyhounds will continue indefinitely, including an increase in funding to cater for Masters greyhounds. The full offer of sustainability payments can be seen below.

  1. $500 sustainability payment for a QLD bred greyhound when it has its first race start, provided it is in Queensland. Payment split 50/50 between owner and breeder.
  2. $500 sustainability payment for a QLD bred greyhound when it wins its first race, provided it is in Queensland. Payment split 50/50 between owner and breeder.
  3. $500 sustainability payment for a QLD bred greyhound when it wins its second race, provided it is in Queensland. Payment split 50/50 between owner and breeder.
  4. $500 sustainability payment for a QLD bred greyhound when it wins its first Masters race, provided it is in Queensland. Payment split 50/50 between owner and breeder.

RQ has removed the requirement for the second win to be in a novice race, acknowledging that a novice event is not always available for certain tracks and distances. Payments for greyhounds that have won their second race in these circumstances will be back dated to 1 February 2018.
