Brock Miller is being remembered as a respected racing identity that heavily influenced several different areas of the industry.

The long-time horse owner and former chairman on the old Racing Disciplinary Board and Racing Appeals Board passed away recently at the age of 72 after a battle with illness.

Outside of racing, Miller was a senior partner in the Brisbane-based law firm: Quinlan, Miller and Treston.

With his extensive knowledge around the law, Miller became the deputy chairman and eventually chairman on the former Racing Disciplinary Board and Racing Appeals Board.

Close friend for 50 years and business partner of Miller, Tom Treston, said he enjoyed owning racehorses and his role as an administrator.

“Brock was heavily involved with the tribunal and the appeals process and went on to become the chairman,” Treston said.

“He was a regular race goer over the years, as well.”

While also working together, Treston and Miller raced a number of quality horses with friends.

“The main one that Brock was in with me and a few others was You’re Kidding, he was no champion, but he won three Open company races in a row,” Treston said.

“He ran a respectable race in a Stradbroke Handicap, as well, he ran fifth I believe.

“He had another one named Handsome Prince, I was not in him, but Brock was, and he won quite a few races.

“You’re Kidding and Handsome Prince were probably his two best ones over the years and we probably had a few duds as well (laughs).”

Racing Queensland CEO Brendan Parnell said Miller was a significant contributor to the industry in the Sunshine State.

“Brock was a highly respected member of the Queensland racing community,” Parnell said.

“The entire racing community is sad to hear of Brock’s passing and extend our condolences to his wife Lesley and the extended family."

Miller’s funeral is set to be held next week.

Miller is survived by his wife Lesley and their children.

RQ extends its condolences to the Miller family.
