It was a night to remember.

Young Leonard Cain, the fresh-faced 18-year-old that stole the limelight at Albion Park last night (Saturday).

The meeting highlight was the $20,630 Flashing Red, a stand-start feature run over the marathon distance of 2647m under standing start conditions while the co-feature was the final rounds of heats of the 2018 BOTRA Queensland Young Drivers Championship.

The six leg series started on Thursday afternoon at Albion Park before heading to Redcliffe the following night while the climax was reached at Albion Park last night.

And Cain landed the lot.

He won the Flashing Red with a daring front-running drive behind the Jack Butler trained Markey Oh Markey while picking up both heats with victories behind Get In The Groove and Grinvil.

Cain gave the Grant Dixon prepared Get In The Groove a perfect one out/one back trip while coming from near last with the Richard Hutchinson trained Grinvil.

The three victories provided the richly talented Cain his first metropolitan treble.

But it wasn’t enough to secure the title of the BOTRA Queensland Young Driving champion.

That title belongs with Danielle McMullen, consistent and professional efforts throughout the series had her three points clear of the fast-finishing Cain.

“It was a great night, landing my first metro treble while securing a feature is a dream come true. With any series, you rely on luck in so many ways; I got lucky with key drives and luck in running but got the results which are great for respective connections.” Cain said.

With over 80 lifetime victories, Cain is the name to follow in coming years.

A natural lightweight, great hands and a strong sense of speed, Cain continues to improve each and every time he competes.

Late last year, he landed a feature Open Class double at Albion Park after guiding the temperamental Our Hi Jinx to victories in the $20,540 Lord Mayors Cup followed by the $30,540 Be Good Johnny Sprint.

And with the winter carnival looming, Cain is hoping to build on his recent good fortunes.

“As it stands, I don’t think I have anything confirmed but I’m ready and able if the opportunity arises.

“I’ve been very fortunate with some great support from a lot of different owners and trainers, without that support, there is no success.

“And I’m very grateful for the support of my family, Mum (Debra) and Dad (Errol) plus my sister Alex has been huge. And a special mention to Beth too.”

Cain is currently sitting 8th in the Statewide Concession Drivers premiership with 30 winners to date.

But that number should continue to swell.
