What an amazing ride it has been for the huge ownership group involved with talented two-year-old filly Dusty Tycoon (Written Tycoon x Sponsored). If someone had told any of Dusty Tycoon's owners two weeks ago that she would be winning a metro race in 12 days time, they would not have believed it!

Dusty Tycoon first trialled on 4 November at Doomben (placed 2nd) and pulled up so well that trainer Rob Heathcote decided to trial her again on 12 November, at Deagon, where she once again performed well and won. Many owners attended the two trials and were thrilled with what they saw both in regards to the filly’s exemplary temperament and manners and her ability. Dusty Tycoon was ticking all the boxes and doing everything required, so the next step was to head off to the races. Rob decided on the 2yo Handicap over 1000m at Sunshine Coast Turf Club on Saturday 16 November for Dusty Tycoon's debut. A tribe of her owners, over 170 in fact, were determined to be there to show their support and experience a day at the races as an owner, and what a day it was!

Many of the connections of Dusty Tycoon are first time owners and they were able to truly live the ownership dream by witnessing their filly win on debut at a metropolitan raceday. This talented and sensible filly took the whole raceday in her stride. From the float trip up the Bruce Highway in high temperatures to her hysterically cheering owners as she made her victorious return to scale. It was more like the sound made when the Broncos score on the hooter at Suncorp Stadium than a horse race when she won. The intense love for this horse shown by her owners was completely contagious and awesome to behold. Watch a replay of Dusty Tycoon's win at the bottom of the article.

So how do 170 people get to be owners in the one horse? Well, there are actually many, many more unique owners in Dusty Tycoon! This is possible thanks to miRunners which is changing the face of Australian thoroughbred racing by making horse ownership accessible to all Australians. The miRunners model is simple, they purchase a premium racehorse, match it with a top-tier trainer and split the purchase cost into 1000 units with no mark-up. To become an owner in Dusty Tycoon, who sold out earlier this month, it was only $176 up-front, and a flat rate of $15 per month for each individual unit. Owners could purchase up to 20 units and only paid $5 extra for additional units. This covers all training, management, veterinary, transport, nominations plus owner benefits including share of winnings, weekly trainer to owner communications, owner certificate, plus much more.

To assist with introducing more Queenslanders to ownership, in January 2019 Racing Queensland formed a partnership with miRunners to make ownership of premium thoroughbreds affordable to everyone. This partnership has encouraged and enabled Queenslanders to experience the thrill of owning a very well-bred filly in their own state, which is in training with a leading local trainer and is raced in Queensland.

Ask any of the owners of Dusty Tycoon in attendance on Saturday and they’ll say how proud they were of their horse. It doesn’t matter that they only own a tiny part of her. The excitement and experience of an amazing journey with a beautiful horse that comes with ownership is the same, regardless of how big the share. That said, being an owner of Dusty Tycoon with so many other people feels like being part of a great big joyful family. So many new friendships between people from all walks of life have been forged, thanks to everyone sharing the journey of this lovely filly.

Aside from the fantastic experience of attending trials and races, and meeting so many other owners/friends, the communications from miRunners and Rob Heathcote are absolutely top class. The regular emails with video, photos and audio communications ensure that everyone, even those who aren’t able to see their filly live can enjoy the journey with Dusty Tycoon. There’s also a wonderful Facebook community where everyone gets involved in supporting their miRunners horses.

If you’d love to be part of the Racing Queensland miRunners ownership journey there are still units available in another stunning two-year-old filly, Northern Thunder (Snitzel x Typing), which is with Munce Racing. There is also the yet to be named two-year-old filly (Exceed And Excel x Fate Rules) with Toby Edmonds. For more information and to buy a unit in either of these exciting fillies CLICK HERE
