Racing heads to Townsville today for a seven-race program beginning at 2pm. Following 5.5mm of rain earlier in the day the track has been downgraded from a Good 4 to Soft 5. The Rail Position is +7.5m 1000m – Winning Post, +3m remainder.

Race 1

2. Edith Margaret has filled the minor placings in her last four runs and only found one better without luck in her last two. She is an on-pacer and with just 54.5kg on her back after the claim, should prove very hard to beat.

Race 2

6. Mexican Mountain can motor. Has made a steady start since joining the Robert Kirkwood stable but is ready to strike over a mile with wins out to 1700m. Made up ground late last start and will be hard to beat on that run.

Race 3

1. Good As Done wasn’t all that far away when racing at Hawkesbury and Kembla Grange last preparation and gets his chance first-up in what appears to be easier company.

Race 4

1. Blazing Steel won at this track and distance two starts back when jumping from Barrier 11. Beat Chica Peeps and Mega D’oro in that run and meets easier opposition here. In-form jockey Les 'Bubba' Tilley goes on board.

Race 5

1. Rivariva came from 10th to run third in the Mackay Newmarket behind Grand Emperor and Avonaco and should be too classy for these. Came from the rear to win last time he raced over 1000m at Townsville.

Race 6

3. Hot Shot Harry came from eighth to run second in a Class 6 last start. Before that easily accounted for his rivals in Class 2 company. Back to the right grade today and should be far too good. Has Victorian form on his side which has proved typically strong in North Queensland.

Race 7

4. Martial Art is an interesting runner, with wins to-date coming over 1200m and 1800m. Has absolutely flown home in last two starts, coming from last to finish fourth in both. Drops down in grade from BM 65 to BM55.
