Talented colt Mishani Hustler has emerged as one of the State’s main hopes for the major juvenile races in the winter with an all the way win at the Sunshine Coast on Saturday.

Mishani Hustler claimed the males’ division of the QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap (1200m) when he downed Sesar by a long neck.

Blue Book suffered his first defeat in three starts finishing a gallant third, a further 1-1/4 lengths away, at his first start since December.

Trainer Ben Currie is eyeing the Group 2 Sires’ Produce Stakes and possibly the Group 1 J J Atkins at Doomben but has some reservations whether he will run 1600 metres.

The Group 2 Sires Produce Stakes (1350m) will be run at Doomben on May 26 with the Group 1 J J Atkins (1600m) at Doomben on June 9.

Mishani Hustler was an impressive winner on debut when he downed the highly rated Toowoomba filly Plumaro at Doomben in February.

The Exceedingly Good colt then ran fourth in the QTIS Jewel at the Gold Coast on March 17 before producing an impressive front running display to win at Doomben two weeks ago.

“He’s a very good horse and is being aimed at the winter races,” Currie said.

“I wanted him to lead the day he ran fourth at the Gold Coast and he did that when he won at Doomben last time.”

Mishani Hustler is a home bred and is owned by Mike Crooks.

Meanwhile fleet-footed Zoom By lived up to her name with a sizzling win the fillies division of the QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap.

Zoom By jumped straight to the front off her wide draw to score a decisive three-quarters of a length win over Fish ‘N’ Snitz with Clockwise, third, a nose away.

Zoom By, a son of Red Dazzler, is owned by Eureka Stud principal Scott McAlpine who stands Red Dazzler alongside boom sire Spirit Of Boom.

The win kept Zoom By’s unblemished record intact after a near five length win on debut at Gatton last month.

Zoom By is only the second horse trainer Liam Birchley has trained for McAlpine.

“I train her full sister Balabina and she’s the only other horse I’ve had for the McAlpine family,” Birchley said.

“The wide barrier was my biggest issue today but, in the end, there was no real concern.”

Birchley said Zoom By was still one dimensional and he will see how she recovers before mapping out a winter campaign.

“The winter carnival is on our doorstep so I’ll see how she comes through this run first,” he said.

“I’ll probably look at some Black-Type races but nothing is set in concrete yet.

“Whether she’ll get out to a distance like the Sires’ Produce remains to be seen as she’s still one dimensional.”
