Leading Brisbane trainer Tony Gollan has declared Niedorp and Get Stuck In as his two best hopes at Doomben on Saturday.

Gollan, a six-times winner of the Brisbane trainers’ premiership, accepted with 16 runners for the nine-race programme.

However, he has already scratched Silvera in the Open Handicap and won’t start Angus The Black who drew badly in the QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Plate.

Niedorp, alongside stablemates Hollaback Girl and Cailini will clash in the Benchmark 72 Handicap while Get Stuck In tackles the TAB Open Handicap.

Niedorp is on the comeback trail following his spring campaign in Melbourne and was being aimed the Brisbane winter carnival, which has been scrapped amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Not A Single Doubt filly had four starts in Melbourne, with her best performances a second to fellow Queenslander Ruuca over 1000 metres at Moonee Valley in October before a last start fourth in the Group 3 Red Roses at Flemington in November.

“I was getting her ready for races like the Mick Dittman Plate and some of the other three-year-old races in the winter before the carnival was called off,” Gollan said.

“I think she and Get Stuck In are my two best chances at Doomben.

“Niedorp is coming along really well and has drawn well.

“I think she’ll get a nice run from her draw and she won’t have to lead and should be just off the pace.”

Get Stuck In has impressed Gollan with his improvement since he finished second to Emerald Kingdom in his first start this campaign at Eagle Farm on March 7.

The five-year-old subsequently led all the way to easily beat Shogun Son by more than four lengths over 1500 metres at Eagle Farm two weeks ago.

“He ran well first-up at Eagle Farm and improved a lot off that run to win last start and I think he’s taken even more improvement from his last run,” Gollan said.

“He led last time and he’s drawn well again but he doesn’t have to lead and can take a sit if need be.”

Gollan is a runaway leader in the Brisbane trainers’ premiership with 71.5 wins.

He was bidding to become the first to train 100 metropolitan wins in a season before Racing Queensland suspended all trainers and jockey premiership counts due to the coronavirus disruptions.

Gollan already holds the Brisbane metropolitan record with 90 winners set in 2017/18.
