Racing Queensland confirms that the Cairns Jockey Club race meeting scheduled for this Thursday, April 22, has been abandoned.
The decision to abandon the meeting was made following a track inspection on Tuesday, April 20, a process undertaken after 450mm of rain fell in the Cairns region in the previous 72 hours. The inspection determined that there is no possibility that the race meeting could proceed on Thursday.
RQ did, following today’s abandonment decision, explore all avenues for the meeting to be re-scheduled, however this was unable to be facilitated. RQ will instead seek to provide replacement racing opportunities through the potential programming of additional races in the region within the next week.
