The training partnership of Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted hope to provide their new apprentice Jaden Lloyd with a first-up winner at the Sunshine Coast on Saturday.

Lloyd switched his indentures from Gold Coast trainer Maryann Brosnan and started with the Eagle Farm co-trainers on Monday.

Lloyd currently leads the Brisbane Apprentice Premiership with 30 wins - a half win ahead of rival and close friend Kyle Wilson-Taylor.

The young gun was booked to have his first ride for O’Dea and Hoysted aboard He Knows at Doomben on Wednesday before the stable scratched the four-year-old after drawing badly.

He has six rides at the Sunshine Coast including stable debutante Osamu for his new bosses in the Benchmark 72 Handicap over 1000 metres.

Osamu was previously trained by Annabel Neasham in Sydney before being transferred to O’Dea and Hoysted after finishing second to the Les Kelly-trained Gogol at Doomben on February 5.

Hoysted is looking forward to Lloyd riding for the stable following the decision by Baylee Nothdurft to take another break from racing because of increasing weight.

“Jayden has decided to move to Brisbane from the Gold Coast to open more doors,” Hoysted said.

“It’s the right time of his career to do so as his riding has improved out of sight from six months ago.

“It comes at a good time for us after Baylee’s decision not to ride for a while.”

Hoysted believes Osamu has a strong chance of giving Lloyd his first win since joining the stable.

“We picked him up after he was narrowly beaten by Gogol a few weeks ago and Gogol has gone on to win again at the Gold Coast,” Hoysted said.

“He had been very consistent in Sydney without winning and was left with us by his owners hoping to find some easier races here.”

Meanwhile, Hoysted also is hopeful of a strong performance from Buying Time in the QTIS Three-Year-old Handicap over 1000 metres.

Buying Time has won his only two starts at the Sunshine Coast including his latest dominant win in a Benchmark race on February 4.

“He’s a nice horse but he’s still six months away from his best,” Hoysted said.

“He’s still very green and raw and he showed that in his latest win.

“This is a big step up in grade to a three-year-old race on a Saturday but he’s drawn well and will be competitive.”
