Racing Queensland will further extend the early payment option for owners and breeders seeking to register their 2018 foals as QTIS horses to March 31, 2020.

The deadline had previously been extended to December 31 2019 due to lingering drought conditions across the state, and with no improvement in conditions forthcoming, a further extension has been approved.

Racing Queensland CEO Brendan Parnell said the organisation has its participants front of mind in making this decision, and will continue to support those who may have been financially impacted.

“Unfortunately, we are still seeing the effects from one of the state’s worst droughts on record,” Mr Parnell said.

“Last month, more than two-thirds of Queensland was declared officially in drought, with only northern parts of the state and Brisbane drought-free.

“Our regional areas have had to battle with a drought and bushfires over the last 12 months, and with no foreseeable end in sight, we hope this secondary extension can offer further respite.”

In October 2019, RQ unveiled the QTIS registration process, which provides a discounted first payment of $385 (GST inc) if an early payment is made.

While the early payment option exists, foals can still become QTIS registered horses if full payment is made by 31 July 2020.
