Racing Queensland confirms that the inclement weather endured in the Mackay area over recent days immediately after the track’s recent refurbishment has resulted in the racing surface being deemed unsuitable for racing on at the club’s race meeting on Wednesday January 13.
It is anticipated however that with an additional recovery period and favourable weather, the club’s subsequent race meeting on Wednesday January 27 will proceed as scheduled.
RQ has, as a consequence of the cancellation, given consideration to the potential programming of a replacement meeting, however the combination of a lack of availability of a suitable venue coupled with the fact that the existing race programs over the next fortnight will present suitable alternative racing options for the majority, have rendered this option unsuitable.
RQ will however program an additional race at the Townsville TC race meeting on Friday January 15.
The race is:
- Maiden Handicap 1609m, of $18,500.
The race meeting will now comprise a nine race program.
RQ will also consider the potential division of races in the region within the next fortnight should acceptance numbers deem it appropriate.
