The 2019 Carrington Cotton Boggabilla Cup will be staged this Saturday when run at Gunsynd Park.

Club President Geoff Makim, who himself has very close ties to Boggabilla, was thrilled to be able to continue the tradition of Boggabilla Cups and broaden the Country Racing fabric.

"We are very proud of our achievements at Goondiwindi Race Club and we wanted to acknowledge centres like Boggabilla & Inglewood that no longer have a Race track to enjoy Country Racing.

"Goondiwindi is fortunate enough to have excellent racing facilities at Gunsynd Park and we believe these other centres can capitalise on these facilities.

"It gives us a great series of Country Cups," Makim explained.

"We staged the Inglewood Cup in June, now the Boggabilla Cup on August 3, the Talwood Cup also in August (14th) and of course the Vern Kleinschmidt Goondiwindi Cup on September 7.

A number of Boggabilla businesses combined to make this event possible and we welcome the contribution of Andrea Mc Cosker and RMI in presenting the first Carrington Cotton Boggabilla Cup," Makim said.

A major part of the Boggabilla scene currently is Fulton Hogan who continues with the upgrade of the Newell Highway works and they to join the list of sponsors to make the Boggabilla Cup possible.

The Boggabilla Cup went into recess since in 2012 but after a successful event last year, it is back and now a part of the local calendar.

I Am the One trained by Mark Goodwin and ridden by Lyall Appo won the Boggabilla Cup in 2012.

Racing will get underway at 1.30pm with a five event card. The club has two private parties booked already and a large crowd is expected to take advantage of the excellent catering supplied by Jodie Jeans and the view platform made available by the Goondiwindi Picnic Race Club this year.

Anyone requiring individual packages should contact Cutter Hayes on 0428 987 522. There will be something for everyone and the new corporate viewing mound has proved extremely popular as has the jumping castle for the kids. See you for racing at its best in the west – this Saturday.
