Trainer Kelly Schweida has cautioned punters expecting promising filly Expert Eye to improve her winning strike rate at Ipswich on Wednesday.
Expert Eye is chasing a hat trick of wins and will be ridden by Jim Orman in the QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap over 1690 metres.
The daughter of Better Than Ready, who Schweida trained throughout his career, has started five times for two wins and a third.
Expert Eye broke through for her first win in a Maiden Handicap (1350m) at Doomben on May 13 before scoring a commanding victory over the same distance in a Class One at Doomben on June 3.
Schweida agrees it’s not common for a maiden winner to win at their next start, particularly in the metropolitan area.
“She’s a nice filly but I wanted to run her over 1400 metres at the Gold Coast last Friday but the meeting was washed out,” Schweida said.
“She’s done a good job to win twice in her five starts which have all been in one preparation.
“She’ll race well again but I would have preferred this to be over 1400 metres.
“Instead, she’s had to step up in distance to 1690 metres which isn’t ideal.
“I’m hoping she will run a big race again but she’ll go the paddock after this run.”
