Star South Australian apprentice Raquel Clark brought up 100 wins this season in a heat of the National Apprentice Race Series (NARS) at Doomben on Wednesday.

The win helped South Australia into third place following three rounds of the series which aims to shine a spotlight on apprentices across Australia.

Queensland remains in top spot (17 points) with Victoria in second (13 points).

Clark is apprenticed to Leon McDonald and Andrew Gluyas and has ridden 97 winners in her home state this season.

She brought up the nationwide century with a well-timed frontrunning display aboard the Tony Gollan-trained mare Dream Kisses in Race 6.

“It’s such a great thrill and I can’t thank everyone who has put on this series enough, otherwise I wouldn’t be here at Doomben today,” she said.

“Mr Gollan said to me that I had a plan to sit outside the leader but if that doesn’t happen just lead because that’s what this filly was looking for.”

Clark, who has now outridden her claim, said there wasn’t any great secret to her success.

“You just have to have the support behind you and you can keep riding winners. Hopefully I get plenty more.”

Victoria kept itself in the NARS 2019 fight when Teodore Nugent guided the Toby Edmonds-trained Tziporah into third.

However, it is Queensland that remains atop the leaderboard thanks to Michael Murphy steering the Rob Heathcote-trained Our Mantra into fourth place.

Western Australian apprentice Emma Stent and her mount Cruze missed the kick before finishing sixth.

Tasmania’s Teagan Voorham partnered Downloading – a three-quarter brother to champion sprinter Buffering – to finish eighth.

Representatives from each state were taken on a walk of the Doomben track prior to Race 1, led by former champion Queensland jockey Shane Scriven.

Each apprentice was also gifted a National Apprentice Race Series suitcase as a token of Racing Queensland’s appreciation for their attendance and participation in the series.
