The Melbourne Cup will soon be seen in the Sunshine State with the connections of Vow and Declare luring the prized item to Gympie next month.

The Danny O’Brien-trained gelding became the pride of Queensland last year when he fought off a host of international challengers to secure the world’s richest two-mile handicap at Flemington.

With O’Brien targeting the Doomben Cup, the EVA Air Q22 and the Tattersall's Cup as part of his Melbourne Cup defence, Vow and Declare will be the star attraction during the 2020 TAB Queensland Racing Carnival.

In the meantime, racing fans will be able to get a first-hand look at the time-honoured trophy, with the Melbourne Cup arriving at Gympie Station on Friday, April 3 before travelling aboard the Mary Valley Rattler.

Staged in conjunction with the Men of League Foundation, the ticketed event includes a return steam train journey, welcome drink and light refreshments on arrival, along with on-board entertainment, and a ticket to the Gympie Turf Club’s meeting the following day.

As part of the evening, attendees will be able to get up close and personal with the Melbourne Cup as it conducts a parade through the heritage carriages along the journey.

With a number of Vow and Declare’s connections based in the region including Gympie's Deputy Mayor, Bob Leitch, the visit will be a homecoming of sorts following last year’s memorable win.
